iciHaiti - Japan : Strengthening of bilateral relations

On Thursday, May 6, the Ambassador of Haiti accredited to Japan, Helph Monod Honorat received a courtesy visit from the new Resident Representative of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Hisanao Noda, before his departure for Haiti.

The two men shared their views on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries as well as on the fact that JICA must continue and strengthen its efforts to support the Haitian Government in the process of rebuilding the country through projects of technical cooperation, the dispatch of experts and volunteers and the financing of development.

Discussions also focused on issues relating to the Agency’s various interventions in Haiti such as the rehabilitation and construction of infrastructure https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23328-haiti-japan-$34m-donation-for-the-croix-des-missions-and-the-route-neuve-bridges.html, the modernization of the agricultural system https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-33378-haiti-japan-2-new-projects-funded-by-japan.html, the increase in the number of scholarships granted to Haitian students https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-31134-haiti-notice-japan-scholarship-2021-call-for-applications.html ; the construction of schools https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32253-haiti-education-official-reopening-of-classes-and-the-inauguration-of-12-new-schools.html and new premises of the École Normale Supérieure https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32084-haiti-humanitarian-donation-of-$38m-from-japan.html

Note that the Japanese International Cooperation Agency has just launched in Haiti and the Caribbean the “JICA Chair” Academic Program in conjunction with the Technical Center for Planning and Applied Economics (CTPEA) in order to enable Haitian students and teachers to better understand the process of rapid development that Japan experienced in the second half of the twentieth century. This program will be extended to other Haitian universities.
